Layoff Your Boss

"Take this job and shove it... I ain't workin' here no more"

And so went the lyrics of the popular country-western song belted out by Johnny Paycheck.

It is a common practice to place a phone call to a local radio station and ask them to play this song when you "fire your boss"

Let's face it. It's a fun tune.

And more people than ever before are telling their bosses to "take this job and shove it", thanks to the power of the Internet.

I regularly receive email from people telling me that they are leaving their jobs and going full time online.

But every now and then I run across an unbeliever.

I received an email last week and I want to share it with you. Allow me to paraphrase, please.

"Joel, I don't believe that people other than the 'gurus' make money online. I'd love to quit my job, but I am totally overwhelmed with all the ebooks and seminars. I don't know where to start! Please prove me wrong and show me there is hope for me. I am so tired of the rat race and I want to make this work. Help!"

First of all, let me say this.

When I started online, I did NOT hit a home run my first time at the bat.

I struck out. But I went down swinging.

And I didn't give up.

Sometimes it takes more effort to make things happen.

And sometimes you just need to know the right things to do.

I do believe it is getting more difficult, but that is all the more reason why it is critical to establish yourself online NOW, before it becomes impossible!

I know it IS possible, and I'd like to share a glowing example with you.

His name is Jeff Wellman, and he just told his boss to "take a hike".

Jeff has spent hours and hours researching ways to make money online with affiliate marketing, and I believe he has created one of the absolute best resources available for people ready to "fire their boss".

This ebook is not written for the expert. It is written for those who know there is money to be made online, but have no idea how to go about getting it.

Jeff is a real person, just like you and me, and he has created this resource to speak on a level that anyone can understand. After all, the sooner you "get it", the sooner you'll be able to put the right steps into action.

If this speaks to you and you are ready to tell your boss "take this job and shove it", then I recommend you check out Jeff Wellman's ebook.

Bookwise But Not Smart

A couple months ago, I shared the Bookwise opportunity with you. It appeared to be a solid MLM with potential.

I've seen some people jump on board this, but the past few weeks I've been skeptical that they could really make it work.

I've been using the domain BookWiseProfits.com to build my BookWise business.... until today.

I just received an email from Todd Tanner at BookWise.

It reads...

The use of BookWise in your domain name bookwiseprofits.com is a violation of BookWise policy as outlined in the Policies and Procedures section of the Associate Business Guide (4.2.3)
Associates may not use or attempt to register any of BookWise’s trade names, trademarks, service names, service marks, product names, the Company’s name, or any derivative thereof, for any Internet domain name.

Please contact your domain name registrar and cancel bookwiseprofits.com as soon as possible.

Sigh...

Once again, a company shoots itself in the foot as it seeks to protect itself.

This happened to me with Tupperware and Arbonne. In the latter case, my article on Arbonne has become the single most popular page on the web discussing the topic.

Now, it's BookWise that is discouraging ingenuity and entrepreneurship by desperately attempting to protect their name.

The irony is that the domain goes directly to their own page. How can this possibly be damaging to the company?

Beats me. I've sent them a couple dozen associates and helped make them money.

Shortsightedness.

Instead of sending threatening emails, the company would do far better to make their policies flexible if they would serve the company and their clients. I now see red flags and am happy to comply with the company's request. The domain will now redirect to this page instead. I will be removing myself from the BookWise program effective immediately.

With that, I no longer endorse BookWise as an opportunity to watch.

It's too bad. Their concept had potential. But like many others before them, they don't truly understand the new media. And in not understanding, they hurt themselves and those who would help them increase profits.

One More Link Unit Equals More Money

It's one small change for Google. It could be one giant leap in your income.

Or at the very least, a nice little increase.

Google has changed its policies (again).

Want to know what the change is and what it could mean for your revenue stream?

Read on...

Google will now lets you put three link units instead of two on the same Web page.

Why can that bring you more money? Because in the right places, well-blended link units can bring great returns. Those spots have always included a horizontal line under the navigation bar and a vertical link unit in a sidebar beneath a list of recommended links.

But link units also work really well at the bottom of blog posts. You could, for example, end a post with a list of links for further reading and place a link unit right next to it. The ads appear recommended, a strategy that brings an excellent clickthrough rate.

Until now, publishers have had to choose between blending their link units into their navigation links or placing them at the bottom of blog posts. Now that you can place three link units on the same page, you no longer have to make that choice. You can do both.

In fact, you could even remove the link units from the navigation links altogether and place them at the bottom of the first three post teasers on your home page. Would that bring you more money than placing them next to your navigation links?

There's only one way to find out...

How to Profit from eBay Without Selling Anything

Recently, I told you that I was pulling out of the Bookwise program. It looked like a good opportunity -- it still does look like a good opportunity -- but when they objected to the domain name I was using to profit from it, I decided to leave.

One door closes... and another one opens.

I've been playing around with AuctionAds, and I have to say, I've been very impressed.

AuctionAds lets you put eBay ads on your website. You can put as many units as you want on a page, optimize them and even choose the keywords for each unit so that you get ads that match your content.

For anyone with a website that discusses products, it's a perfect match. And even if your site doesn't discuss products, some clever sales selection should still bring you some useful revenue on top of your AdSense earnings.

If you are going to use AuctionAds though (and unlike Bookwise now, I do recommend it!), remember that in addition to choosing the keywords, you can also choose the minimum and maximum price for the items that appear in your ads.

To set the minimum price, you put "minprice:x" in the keyword field; to set the maximum price, you put"maxprice:x" in the keyword field.

That provides you with a whole new variable to play with...

Not the price of the product, although it will obviously affect that!

I'm talking about the timing of the auction.

The reason that you can set the price range for your AuctionAds units is that the price changes as the sale progresses. And it changes most towards the end of the sale.

Being able not just to choose which auction to advertise but the stage of the auction in which you want bring in users is a great help. I know I'm going to have a lot of fun -- and I'm sure that I'm going to make a lot of money -- figuring out the best time to put a sale in front of my users.

I hope you do too.

I have just finished writing a brand new report on how you can make money with Auction Ads.

Make Money Online

Let's run down the basic flowchart and checklist for creating a money-making website.

1) Do you have a website?

If so, go to #2.

If not, you need to start right there. The fastest way to get started is with my training, tutorials and templates.

2) Do you have content and/or a product?

If the answer is yes, go to #3.

If not, you've got to either have something to say or something to sell!

Remember, people are searching to web for answers... for solutions.

What is your solution?

Share it with the world!

3) Do you have a mailing list?

If you do, congratulate yourself! Most site owners do not have a list.

And if you don't, I just found the absolute fastest way to build one.

I've known Gary Ambrose for several years. He has had greater repeated success building mailing lists than anyone I know.

Why is that?

He has a system in place to regularly generate new leads which he is then able to market his sites and services to.

Now, Gary is making his system publicly available...

... and you can build your own list using his system starting today for free!

Certainly there is more to succeeding online than these three steps, but these are foundational building blocks which you must have in place before you attempt more advanced strategies.

It's as easy as 1... 2... 3!

Get serious about making money online by getting busy today. Figure out which step you are at and take appropriate action. Without action, the only guarantee I can make is that nothing will happen.

The Definition of Success

How long is a piece of string?

No one would ever ask such a stupid question, would they? Well, I get asked some pretty silly questions sometimes. Like “How long will it take before I become a successful online publisher?”

There’s no one answer to that. Not just because it depends on the number of hours you work each day, the quality of your content and your skill at generating traffic.

But also because it depends on your definition of success.

For many of the people I’ve helped build revenue-generating websites, success simply means a little extra income on top of their regular salary. For others, it means a chance to replace their salary with work they can do from home. And for a few, it means nothing less than a house in Cancun and a team of trained staff to do all the work while they spend the profits on the beach.

There’s only one real measure of success though.

It’s not the number of dollars in your bank account...

It’s not the amount of traffic your site receives...

And it’s not even the size of the check that Google sends you each month.

It’s the amount of pleasure you get out of being an online publisher.

Online publishing is a job. It’s a job that can pay a lot of money and let you set your work conditions. But like any job, if you don’t enjoy it, you shouldn’t be doing it.

That’s sound advice in any field but in online publishing, it’s particularly true. That’s because there’s no better measure of your content’s interest level than the amount of fun you had creating it.

If you enjoy creating your site, people will enjoy reading it. They’ll come back, tell their friends and click your ads.

Achieve success by enjoying being an online publisher, and it won’t be long before you’re successful by all those other measures too.

Want to learn more about being a successful publisher?

Rick Butts has persuaded me to join him for a very unique teleseminar series called "Visitor 2 Cash", in which I and several other Internet success stories will be sharing the ways that we generate multiple revenue streams through our sites.

Looks at the names that are going to be spilling their secrets on this series...

- Nathan Anderson (of Metawebs fame)
- Rick Raddatz (audio generator fame)
- Kirt Christensen (Internet marketing legend)
- and more!

Is Site Stealing Ethical?

Bada-bing bada-boom.

You know what I'm sayin'?

Yeah, probably not.

But it seems like everyone is talking like a New York mafia thug in all the emails I have been receiving about The Site Stealer.

It's all in good fun, of course...

... but it's fun with a purpose.

And that purpose is helping YOU make more money. :-)

Site Stealing isn't illegal in the sense you are about to learn.

In fact, the art of duplicating that which works is a common practice.

Why does Burger King exist?

Because the founders saw that McDonalds had a system that worked.

It's the same thing with websites.

The Site Stealer philosophy is to demonstrate that which has already been proven to be effective and show you how to duplicate it for your own success.

Regardless of what you think of the way Harris Fellman has put together this campaign, the fact is that the content in his report is very good and quite valuable.

Go ahead. Be an ethical Site Stealer. It's ok...

Blog Tag - One Thing I Learned at Affiliate Summit

Tag me once, tag me twice. What the heck.

Both Rosalind Gardner and Kris Jones 'tagged' me to create this blog entry.

Here goes...

Not counting the miserable locale of this summer's Affiliate Summit (Miami), the conference was a huge success.

I had the opportunity to interact with dozens of people, man a booth for The Next Internet Millionaire and speak to an audience about contextual advertising. All in all, a very productive time.

What did I learn?

In spite of the record attendance and the number of new businesses springing up, we are still in a the early phases of affiliate marketing. The world at large has no idea what we do, and it is our job to bring them into the fold... to help them discover the massive opportunities that exist online.

I do believe there is more than enough to go around for everyone, though I do wonder how many affiliate networks with the same "me-too" offers the market can sustain.

Creativity, originality and ingenuity will win the day as we continue to find new ways to do things better.

I look forward to participating in the growth of this industry.

What a great time to be alive!

Ok, time for me to tag a few people...

Can You Make Money Blogging About Your Family?

I keep saying that anyone can make money out of an AdSense site.

I still think that's true.

Anyone can find something to write about that will interest other people and bring them in to click on ads.

Everyone has a job, a favorite activity, a hobby, a pastime or some other interest that they can write a few hundred words about several times each week.

And yet, so many people choose to write about their families.

There's nothing wrong with that. Of course, your family is more important to you than anything else. That's always the way it should be. But if you only write about your family, there's always the danger that you'll only be writing for your family.

And that's going to give you a pretty limited audience -- and a very limited income.

There are two ways to turn a blog about your family into a blog for everyone.

The first is to be a sparkling writer. If you're witty, funny and can turn any incident into an event, then people will come whatever you write about.

But if you can't turn your blog into a Seinfeld re-run, then you'll need to make some aspect of your family life interesting to more people than your relatives. So if your children play soccer, instead of writing a blog about your children, write it about their soccer experience. Now you have a blog that's interesting to anyone involved with children's sport.

Or if you're teaching your child to read, write a blog about home-schooling. There's a big enough audience there for you.

Or if both you and your partner work, write about the difficulties of handling child-care. Now you have a blog that would appeal most American families.

The bottom line is that you can make money writing about your family... provided you write about other people's families too.

Rip2It

You knew it would happen...

Corporate America is making its way into the Internet Marketing community. This industry is growing up!

The doors just opened on a partnership between three Fortune-100 internet corporations and a software tool for online success.

The new software is called Rip2it, the brainchild of Sean Roach and Nathan Anderson and the company's corporate partners.

It's like nothing I've ever seen before... It allows users to build keyword-targeted websites at lightning speed through a drag and drop freemotion-style Ajax interface.

Boy, that was a mouthful!

What it boils down to is the door flinging open on the Web Publishing side of Internet Marketing. Anyone can build custom websites full of all kinds of different content with this tool - no web design or HTML knowledge needed at all.

Not only that, but the sites it builds are fully Web 2.0 enabled...

Users of Rip2it can drag and drop opt-in boxes onto the page, or add a visitor comments block, so the site grows all by itself.

I must say... the demo video just blew me away!

Since this is a "soft launch" of the Beta version of this software, you probably won't see a million emails about it. Only a few select friends are being allowed to let people in. (I'm one!) ;)

But since this is the Beta launch, you have the opportunity to get in for less than half of what the price will be at public launch.

I'm really blown away by the price... because this is WAY better than those systems that were selling for $10,000 last year...

On the Set of The Next Internet Millionaire

This is big.

No, seriously.

This is REAL Big!

I am on the set of The Next Internet Millionaire, where I am currently in between scenes... thought it would be a great opportunity to tell you what's going on. Well, as much as I CAN tell you :-)

We are on day two of our shoot, and I wish you could feel the "buzz" on this set!

The contestants are incredible. The speakers are fantastic. The challenges are entertaining. And our crew is second-to-none.

When we said we were going to create the world's first competitive Internet reality show, I was serious...

... and this thing is is going to be MUCH bigger than I even had hoped!

Right now, I'm sitting next to Mark Joyner, who is having a discussion with Armand Morin and Heather Vale.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall, eh?

I will probably be laying a bit lower of the next couple weeks as we are on location all day long, and I'm lucky to get a few minutes to chill out and let you know what is going on here.

Be sure to watch for the Premier of The Next Internet Millionaire starting August 15th, only at:

http://www.NextInternetMillionaire.com

It's back to the set for me... Looks like we are gathering for the next scene. Who will win this next big task?

Stay tuned!

History in the Making

It's history in the making...

... and you will be able to say that you were there!

For several months, I have told you I was very serious about producing the world's first competitive Internet reality show.

Sure, there were those who questioned what this would actually be.

Would I use webcams?

Would it be nothing more than people sitting around on computers in my office?

Would the production quality be laughable?

All the questions are about to be answered!

We have just put the new site online, along with a teaser video that will prepare you for what is to come starting August 15th.

In the world of Internet marketing and online entertainment, the bar has just been raised...

... the web will never be the same.

Almost There

I have just come from the office where I have seen the rough cut of Episode One of The Next Internet Millionaire.

WOW!

This thing looks great!

The intro is cool. The music is awesome. The teaching is solid. The storyline is compelling. The cast is entertaining.

I am absolutely sure that you are going to love this show.

So we're putting the finishing touches on this first episode and hope to have it online before midnight on Wednesday.

However, this project is a monster. I mean it is much bigger than we had ever imagined.

So there is a chance that it might not make it online until Thursday.

It will be worth the wait. Trust me.

More news coming soon...

Mike Glover of Kontera
Joshua Sloan of 1 and 1

Turning Long Posts Into Lots of Money

I like to keep things short. I know that you're busy. I know that you've got a million things to do today. And I know that if you're reading this, you're not building your online publishing business.

So I don't want to take up too much of your time.

That's why I tend to keep my posts brief and to the point.

In general, my philosophy is that if I can't say what I want to say in less than 400 words, I'm probably saying it wrong.

That isn't true for everyone though. Some blogs can do very well with long posts that include interviews with people or go into fine detail.

But there are problems with posts that go on and on.

First, if you move from one topic to another within the same post, you might make it hard for AdSense to keep your ads targeted. You could end up with very different kinds of ads in the same unit. That will make your ad unit stand out and might lower your clickthrough rate.

Users who want to reach the end of the post might not click the ads anyway. When they see they've got a lot of reading ahead of them, they're less likely to be distracted by tempting links and more likely to be satisfied at the end of the post.

And you also give yourself fewer opportunities for advertising.

Google limits your AdSense advertising to four text or image units, one link unit, two search boxes (who uses two search boxes?) and four referral buttons. That's true whether your page is one screen long or the size of a giant sales letter.

A better solution then is to divide long posts into separate pages. That will give you more places to add AdSense units and it will make the page look shorter, encouraging people to click. You can even write the post as a series of parts, encouraging users to come back and sending new users deep into your site to dig up the previous sections.

It's a better way to turn long posts into lots of money.

The Jerry Lewis Telethon

I have a confession to make.

I haven't watched the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon in years.

And I honestly feel like I am missing something.

As a child, I would watch the show religiously, year after year.

I remember the parade of celebrities, Jerry Lewis' banter with his guests, Ed McMahon, the volunteers answering phones, and of course, the magical toteboard that would light up with huge numbers indicating that the cure for muscular dystrophy would soon be on its way.

I, and millions of others, would tune in every year to watch Jerry do this marathon event. We would wonder if there was some mysterious reason that he relentlessly pursued this passion.

Was his life personally touched by muscular dystrophy?

Did someone close to him suffer from this awful disease?

Ultimately, it didn't matter why Jerry did it. It just mattered that he did it. Year after year.

When I was young, the celebrities would include just about every type of celebrity you could imagine. It was an endless parade of old-school celebs such as Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Dean Martin, Tony Orlando, Mel Torme, Diana Shore and so many others.

And I recall there being a campaign for kids to get involved by doing backyard carnivals to raise money for the charity. You would send away for a free kit that would provide instructions on how to do one of these fundraisers. And as a child, I remember calling in my donation, however small it may have been.

It's been 42 years since the telethon started, and I probably haven't watched one hour in the past 20 years.

40 million people on 190 TV stations nationwide will have watched the 42nd annual telethon by the end of the day on Labor Day.

You know, perhaps it's time to tune in and make my pledge...

Penis enlargement has become my personal forte, and with more and more devices male enhancement on the market, I have noticed that it becomes difficult for men to make an educated purchase.

Car Insurance Rates

CarInsuranceRates.com is a full service quote website providing instant car insurance quotes since 1997. They have also built a large archive of cheap car insurance articles, tips, and expert advice. You can use advanced search feature to locate specific topics in the database. When you feel that you are ready to receive a quote, simply use the quote box located at the top left of the website.

When shopping around for auto insurance, you might want to do a little research, and try not to listen to snappy television commercials and cartoon mascots. The budget insurance companies that inundate the airwaves may guarantee lower prices, but their coverage might not be as inclusive as the traditional companies.

Budget insurance companies offer basic coverage, and serve the needs many frugal consumers. However, making insurance claims may be more difficult than you expect. There is a reason that certain companies can offer low-ball rates: they typically make up for it with lack of coverage. Filing claims with them can be exhausting marathons filled with red-tape. While every insurance company has its troubles, those that pitch you a price far below industry standards, will likely have lower standards of their own.
It’s best to shop around among companies and not always go for the cheapest rate.

online credit cards

When you get your first credit card, it can be very tempting to go on a spending spree buying all sorts of new things that you weren’t able to before. It’s difficult, but you must resist that temptation and use your credit wisely. But how to use it wisely? It’s not difficult - it just takes a little planning.
The first thing to remember is that you shouldn’t be spending more than you can afford. To figure that out, you need to have a budget. The details of making a budget are outside the scope of this article but, put simply, take your monthly income and then subtract your monthly expenses. The difference is your disposable income. This number determines how much you can afford to spend. Without a credit card, the only way to exceed this amount for a given month is to save money (spend less) in the previous months. A credit card can let you exceed your disposable income by letting you use some of your credit. Keep in mind that this will then increase your monthly expenses in the form of your credit card bill, online credit cards.
However, just because you can exceed your disposable income doesn’t mean you should. Eventually, you will reach your credit limit and won’t be able to spend any more on your credit card. This eliminates one of the best uses for a credit card: emergency spending. If you’re on vacation and your car breaks in the middle of nowhere, a credit card is a great way to pay for the repairs. Also, maxing out your credit cards isn’t a good idea if you’re trying to obtain other forms of credit, like car or home loan, as the ratio of credit extended to credit used is a factor in determining your eligibility for those loans.
